Anzac Day

Anzac Day 1994, Kranji War Cemetery, Singapore

The Ode

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

Lawrence Binyon (1869-1943)

  1. Dear Pip

    In 1987 I visited the Allied War Cemetary at Casino in Italy. It was so beautifully looked after, so clearly cared for. And so sad and heart breaking to walk through. So many Kiwis and Aussies. I took the time the read the names and dedications on a row, and then to read the names on a huge block of marble of those whose bodies had never been found.

    I left with silent tears rolling down my cheeks.

  4. I think we are all agreed. War is not good. I think it is good to remember what happened though. And to remember all the people who were affected by war. We are so lucky.
